01The problem
Casual five-a-side in Cape Town runs on WhatsApp groups, and WhatsApp groups leak. Someone commits and doesn't arrive, the organiser is out of pocket on the pitch fee, and nobody can prove who actually showed up.
02The interesting parts
Check-ins are GPS-verified against the pitch's coordinates, so attendance is a fact rather than a claim. That single constraint is what makes the rest of the economy possible.
Payments use a dual-ledger model: tokens for one-off games and subscriptions for regulars, tracked separately so a refund, a no-show penalty and a subscription renewal never contaminate each other's balance. Paystack handles the South African card and EFT rails.
Rosters are realtime over Supabase channels — when a player drops out at 6pm for a 7pm game, everyone sees the open slot immediately, which is the difference between a game happening and a game being cancelled.
03Why it's here
It's the project that shows what I do when nobody is scoping it for me: real auth, real money, real concurrency, and the boring correctness work that a booking page never demands.
